Overview

The UBDS group is seeking a Semantic Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of structured ontology-based data models. This role is central to establishing semantic consistency, knowledge management, and enhanced data interoperability across a large-scale digital programme. The successful candidate will translate business policies and operational logic into machine-readable models, working closely with subject matter experts to develop robust ontologies that underlie advanced data use cases and semantic governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate policy, operational rules, and business logic into structured ontology models
• Define and validate semantic relationships between data entities and systems
• Collaborate with domain experts to capture example scenarios and value-driven use cases
• Maintain and evolve enterprise glossary and ontology documentation
• Develop and maintain concept and entity-relationship ontology maps
• Produce test-case mappings that demonstrate the application and business value of semantic models
• Support governance of semantic standards to ensure alignment with architectural principles

Requirements

Essential

• Strong experience in ontology modelling, semantic data design, or knowledge architecture
• Proficient understanding of concept modelling, data relationships, and structured vocabularies
• Proven ability to translate business logic and rules into formalised, reusable data structures
• Experience collaborating with stakeholders to validate semantic frameworks
• Competence in managing glossaries, metadata, and ontological artefacts in complex environments

Desirable

• Background in semantic technologies, taxonomy, or information architecture
• Experience within public sector or large-scale enterprise contexts
• Familiarity with tools for ontology mapping and governance
