Overview

Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (ELM) role within the Environment Agency, working to shape and deliver the ELM schemes and Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). The role contributes to policy design and delivery, aims to improve services to farmers, and supports EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
  • Identify future risks and resource requirements; work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports outcomes.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of environmental policy reform and regulatory frameworks.
  • Deliver key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and contribute to continuous improvement of the scheme.
  • Represent EA expertise to Defra, delivery bodies, and the agriculture sector to achieve consistency and improve collaboration.

Experience / Skills

  • Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
  • Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to major agricultural sector reform.
  • Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops and takes ideas forward.

  • EA Office base location; national role with flexible/hybrid working in England.
  • Some travel/overnights may be required; smart tools used to stay connected.
