Senior Backend Magento Developer

New Yesterday

We’re looking for a Senior Magento Backend Developer who combines technical depth with excellent communication. You’ll be hands-on building, optimising, and integrating Magento 2 solutions. You’ll also be confident talking to clients, whether that’s clarifying requirements, demoing your work, or explaining technical trade-offs in plain English.

Why join us?

  • Work on ambitious ecommerce projects with Magento 2 and modern stacks.
  • Get real client exposure - you’ll be trusted as a technical voice in calls and demos.
  • Remote-first culture with flexibility and autonomy.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain Magento 2 modules, integrations, and backend functionality.
  • Take part in client calls to gather requirements, demo features, and provide updates.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical solutions.
  • Debug and optimise backend systems for performance and security.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, PMs, and CX teams to deliver projects.
  • Support the team with code reviews and pair programming.

What you’ll bring

Must-haves

  • Excellent communication skills: confident, client-facing, and clear.
  • Strong Magento 2 experience (architecture, custom module development).
  • Advanced PHP and MySQL knowledge.
  • Experience working with REST and SOAP APIs.
  • Git version control and CI/CD experience.
  • Problem-solving mindset and collaborative approach.

Nice to haves

  • Hyvä theme development (and related stack: AlpineJS, TailwindCSS).
  • Frontend familiarity (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Magento certification(s).
  • Elasticsearch or similar search technologies.
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Adobe Commerce Cloud).
  • Message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Agile/Scrum experience.
  • Symfony framework experience.

A typical day might look like

  • Morning stand-up with your team.
  • Jumping on a client call to clarify a requirement or walk through a solution.
  • Deep focus on coding Magento features and integrations.
  • Pair programming with a junior dev to share knowledge.
  • Wrapping up with a pull request and code review.

What’s in it for you

  • Remote-first with flexible working.
  • Competitive salary.
  • Training, certifications, and personal growth opportunities.
  • A collaborative culture where strong communicators thrive.

If you want to keep coding at a high level and be a trusted voice with clients, this is the role for you!
