We are looking for an outstanding Senior Backup and Recovery Engineer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital, to assist in the design of Infrastructure services in collaboration with Architecture and Engineering principles. Location and working patterns: Hybrid working in hubs (Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle) with some time at home. Pay up to £68,517 with 28.97% employer pension contributions, and holidays starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate backup solutions across cloud (AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP) and on-premises infrastructure.
• Lead the integration of Rubrik backup solutions with external platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Splunk, vSphere, Azure AD) using REST APIs and automation tools (Ansible).
• Manage cloud compute, storage, and configurations to ensure repeatability, scalability, resilience and high availability.
• Follow service management frameworks (Risk, ITIL – Incident, Problem, Change and SLAs) and support audit and regulatory compliance efforts related to data protection (GDPR, DORA).
• Deliver minimum viable solutions rapidly, prioritising the most impactful work and supporting junior colleagues.
• Design and run backup solutions, keep services secure and available, and lead incident response to ensure quick recovery.
• Contribute to service reviews, audits and improvement plans; work with Linux and Windows environments.

Qualifications and skills

• Hands-on experience in implementation, migration, operations and support of backup applications.
• Experience with Rubrik backup solutions across multi-cloud and on-premises environments; integration with external platforms via REST APIs and automation tools (Ansible).
• Experience managing cloud compute, storage and configurations; ensuring solutions are repeatable, scalable, resilient and highly available.
• Familiarity with service management frameworks and ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, SLAs).
• Ability to produce and deliver minimum viable solutions with a results-focused mindset and prioritisation of impactful work.
• Understanding of regulatory frameworks (GDPR, DORA) and supporting audit and compliance efforts.
