At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Design the Future with Us – Principal Electrical Engineer (Building Services). At Jacobs, our Building Services (MEP) team is shaping the future of how people live, work, and connect. We work across sectors including healthcare, education, transport, defence, energy, water, and high-rise residential, delivering smart building technologies and sustainable energy systems.

We’re now looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing UK buildings team. Based in one of our key offices, you’ll play a central role in delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable building solutions — not just in the UK, but across global markets including the Middle East and beyond. This is a role where your expertise will have real-world impact, including leadership of engineering delivery and mentoring of junior engineers, while upholding high standards of quality, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.

Beyond technical delivery, you’ll mentor and support team development, promote diversity and inclusion, and contribute to strategic initiatives such as recruitment, budgeting, and policy shaping. You’ll represent Jacobs in client meetings, strengthen relationships, and help secure future work.

With Jacobs’ pipeline of high-impact projects — from airport expansions to water and energy infrastructure — this is a unique opportunity to grow your career while making a meaningful difference. If you're passionate about sustainability, innovation, and leading with purpose, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering delivery of complex projects, guiding junior engineers and ensuring solutions meet quality, cost-efficiency, and sustainability standards.
  • Oversee multi-disciplinary design work or manage smaller projects independently, providing leadership to the team.
  • Support team development, promote diversity and inclusion, and contribute to strategic initiatives such as recruitment and budgeting.
  • Represent Jacobs in client meetings, strengthen relationships, and help secure future work.

Qualifications

  • Strong project design experience in mechanical building services
  • Degree or equivalent in Building Services Mechanical Engineering
  • Skilled in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Dialux, Amtech, and compliance assessments
  • Chartered or working towards MCIBSE / MIET CEng accreditation
  • Solid understanding of UK building regulations
  • Experience integrating sustainable technologies
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities
