About The Role

Senior Building Surveyor (Drone & Digital Surveys) - Cardiff / Birmingham / Bristol / South East

Currie & Brown, a global leader in construction and physical asset management consultancy, is expanding its UK building surveying team in Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, and the South East. This role combines expertise in Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) surveying with traditional building surveying, focusing on drone technology applications in the built environment.

The successful candidate will develop the Aero division, working closely with the Aero Director and Chief Pilot on bidding, business development, and service evolution.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drone Operations & Data Acquisition
  2. Operate drones for technical surveys, inspections, and assessments.
  3. Plan and execute drone flights, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  4. Capture aerial data such as photography, videography, photogrammetry, thermal imaging, LiDAR, and GNSS survey control data.
  5. Produce high-quality 3D and reality capture outputs using structured workflows.
  6. Support operational licensing and train/oversee building surveyors conducting drone flights.
  1. Building Surveying & Data Analysis
  2. Interpret aerial data to identify building defects, assess conditions, and provide recommendations.
  3. Process and analyze imagery and data using software like DroneDeploy.
  4. Integrate aerial data with existing drawings and specifications using Revit.
  5. Perform other building surveying services as needed.
  1. Reporting & Collaboration
  2. Work with team members to deliver reports, maps, and client deliverables.
  3. Communicate findings effectively to clients.
  1. Business Development
  2. Assist in bidding, business development, and service development for the Aero division.
  3. Identify potential clients and projects for UAS-based surveys.
  4. Support promotion of Aero's digital services internally and externally.
  5. Support flexible service delivery to maximize utilization.
  1. Equipment Maintenance & Regulatory Compliance
  2. Maintain UAS equipment, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot issues.
  3. Stay updated with industry developments and regulations to improve operations.
  4. Minimum 2 years of professional UAS operation experience.
  5. Chartered or working towards RICS Chartered status (Building Surveying) is desirable.
  6. Proven experience as a Building Surveyor with knowledge of building pathology, construction methods, and regulations.
  7. Experience with aerial data processing software.
  8. Proficiency with Revit or similar software.
  9. Strong communication skills and team collaboration.
  10. Ability to manage multiple projects and attention to detail.
  11. Willing to travel.
  12. Motivated, adaptable, and innovative with minimal supervision.
