The role

As a Senior Business Planning Manager, you’ll lead the Materials & Equipment Capability workstreams that support the Integrated Business Planning Change programme. You’ll ensure alignment with One Babcock and One Devonport ways of working across all programme phases—from definition and delivery to governance, reporting and benefits realisation. You will work closely with senior internal leaders and Ministry of Defence stakeholders to bridge long-, medium-, and short-term demand and supply, identify gaps, and drive coordinated solutions. This is a highly collaborative role that requires building trusted relationships to enable seamless information flow and integrated planning that meets business and customer objectives.

  • Operationalise programme delivery roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business goals and effective execution across workstreams.
  • Establish and manage programme structure, governance, and processes using company standards and Managing Successful Programmes methodology.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, maintaining clear, consistent communication with business, customer, and programme stakeholders.
  • Drive collaboration and ownership, fostering a culture of success and accountability across the programme team.
  • Oversee planning and resource coordination, ensuring timely availability of skills and resolving risks and issues proactively.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week with hybrid working arrangements and an average of 3 days per week on site.

Essential experience

  • Proven expertise in programme management, leading complex, cross-functional initiatives to successful outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation abilities, capable of synthesising complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, working independently and across teams to deliver under pressure and meet multiple deadlines.

Ideally, this experience will be related to Materials & Equipment, though it is not essential.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from all industries and backgrounds; defence experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent suitable experience.
  • Extensive experience in a similar business role.
