About the role

You will work with existing and new suppliers to drive change and innovation, delivering value by challenging the business to create the category plan and execute sourcing activities, then managing suppliers to secure value and exploit opportunities for cost savings or innovation.

The Senior Category Manager will lead full life cycle responsibilities within a supplier category—from establishing the category plan and aligning with business/technology roadmaps, market evaluation and negotiation, through to contract signature and value realization. This includes onboarding, ongoing supplier management and offboarding.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Category Manager, you will support procurement activities across the defined business area, covering the full supplier life cycle from selection and commercial negotiation to contracting and in-life management. You will own the strategy and engagement for procurement activities, with a focus on delivering sustainable savings, managing risk, and governance aligned to our ESG plan.

The focus area for this role is Professional Services:

  • Category Management - establish and maintain category plans aligned with business and technology strategy to create commercial value, ensure resilience, manage risk, and meet technology roadmaps and demand commitments.
  • Sourcing - lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including market assessments, complex supplier negotiations and contract execution; ensure onboarding through due diligence and delivery of commercial value; manage price protections and post-contract value; protect HL brand.
  • Supplier Management - establish governance to manage relationships and contract obligations, measure performance and risk, deliver commercial value and protect HL brand.

About you

  • Experience working with senior stakeholders to build category plans, drive costs savings, supplier resilience and governance to mitigate risk
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills with experience in leading high-value, complex negotiations
  • Ability to challenge the business with new ways of working, technology and processes to secure sustainable savings
  • Comfortable coaching Contract Managers to enhance commercial value across the supplier life cycle
  • Experience in a technology business, knowledge of cloud, AI and automation technology, and ability to identify and mitigate risks
  • Credibility across various technologies, as well as curiosity and the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Knowledge of regulatory landscape in a Financial Services environment
  • Understanding of EBA Guidelines on Outsourcing
  • Good data analytics skills to understand financial, economic, risk and contractual data and present clearly

The interview process will be a two-stage interview with technical questions and a presentation.

Working Schedule

The Senior Category Manager role is permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Office based in Bristol, hybrid working available with 1-2 days in the office per week.
