Senior Category Manager

NWSSP is responsible for the full Procure to Pay process for all Health Boards, Trusts, and Special Health Authorities in Wales. A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Category Manager within the Medicines Sourcing team.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have a continuous improvement mindset, be flexible and responsive to change, resilient, and have a track record of delivering innovative service improvements. They should be able to manage a heavy workload at pace, adhere to policies and procedures, and meet strategic and operational targets.

Experience and Training

Experience in this category is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided. Procurement and commercial skills are transferable.

Location and Working Arrangements

While the preferred base is Newport, hybrid working is available. Ideally, the successful candidate will be office-based or home-based 2-3 days per week, with discussions possible regarding working arrangements.

Responsibilities

  1. Support understanding of NHS Wales organisations' strategic direction and alignment with NWSSP objectives as part of the IMTP.
  2. Assist in delivering a National Sourcing category strategy for Pharmacy.
  3. Develop and maintain a sourcing plan focused on customer needs and savings from non-pay budgets.
  4. Apply commercial acumen to deliver results in a complex, changing environment.
  5. Implement continuous service improvement initiatives and challenge outdated practices.
  6. Manage the performance of the Procurement team in line with KPIs.
  7. Support responses to FOI, audit, and assurance queries.
