Senior Civil Airfield Engineer – Aviation (WSP, UK & Ireland)

We are currently looking for a Senior Airfield Civil Engineer to help deliver some of our exciting UK and international engineering projects. The role will require good knowledge and understanding of multi-disciplinary project delivery to join our team of technical experts in the UK.

About the role

Drawing upon extensive and long-standing experience, WSP’s aviation experts plan, design and manage the construction of the airports of tomorrow, with a focus on resilience, sustainability and smart technologies.

There will be opportunities for international travel to work with overseas Clients and WSP aviation teams worldwide, as well as the opportunity to develop your own CPD and support the CPD progression of the more junior Engineers within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the preparation of technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications related to the delivery of airfield engineering projects at airports in both the UK and overseas.
  • Helping to manage and coordinate design teams and effectively communicating with all parties.
  • Identifying and managing design risks, issues and Request for Information (RFIs).
  • Ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved to cost/quality/time targets.
  • Acting as a role model for more junior staff within the Airfield Engineering team, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Championing excellent health and safety practice, including safety in design, site visit safety and compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Supporting Project Managers by undertaking project progress monitoring and contributing to the development of appropriate project controls, including change management, information management and document control.
  • Responding to client directions professionally and maintaining relationships with clients, peers and others who are influential in providing future business.

Qualifications

  • A University degree relevant to civil engineering, construction, design or related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience (preferable but not essential).
  • Experience delivering large, technically complex multi-disciplinary airfield civil engineering projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of international airfield design standards such as ICAO, CAA, EASA and FAA.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Civil 3D and other airfield engineering design software packages such as AviPlan, SkySafe and FAARFIELD (preferable but not essential).
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts (i.e., NEC) and processes (preferable but not essential).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; aptitude to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work in a team and share ideas; demonstrated success solving complex problems.
  • Competent in working independently on technical engineering projects and confident in making technical engineering decisions for projects you are responsible for delivering.
