Lead Engineer
Lead Civil and Structural Engineer for 61 Railway Station Projects
We are seeking a Lead Civil and Structural Engineer to oversee the design and delivery of civil and structural works for railway station infrastructure projects. This key leadership role within our Rail business involves managing station upgrades, refurbishments, access-for-all schemes, and structural assessments in accordance with Network Rail and industry standards.
Based in our Warwick office with a hybrid working model, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians through the entire project lifecycle, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective civil and structural designs that meet the operational and passenger needs of modern rail stations.
Your responsibilities include leading the civil and structural design of railway station buildings, platforms, canopies, footbridges, retaining walls, and foundations, covering both new-build and refurbishment projects. You will ensure structural integrity, durability, and compliance with railway standards (NR/L2/CIV/003, BS/EN codes, Eurocodes) and Building Regulations. Additionally, you will oversee structural assessments, inspections, and temporary works designs in live station environments.
Project & Team Management
- Manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, including Principal Engineers, Designers, and CAD Technicians.
- Coordinate with project managers, site teams, contractors, and clients to align technical requirements with project goals.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, Network Rail standards, and company QEHS policies.
- Produce and review technical documents such as Form A/B submissions, design certificates, calculations, and risk assessments.
- Support technical reviews of contractor designs and construction methodologies.
- Lead client design reviews and stakeholder engagements, including with Network Rail, local authorities, and third-party developers.
Qualifications include a BEng/HND in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience), with a valid PTS (or willingness to obtain) and relevant Network Rail training being advantageous. Proven experience in civil/structural design within operational rail environments is required. Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and familiarity with 3D modelling tools (e.g., Civil 3D, Revit) is essential, along with knowledge of BIM workflows.
Additional skills include a strong understanding of construction materials, commercial awareness, and project risk management.
