North Thames Genomics Laboratory Hub- Band 8a Senior Clinical Scientist
The Rare Disease Laboratory has an establishment of approximately 180 including technologists, Clinical Scientists, translational scientists, bioinformaticians and administrative support staff. Along with two Clinical Genetics teams we form a strategic Genetics Unit withinthe hospital and provide North London with a Regional Genetics Service serving a population of approximately 10 million.
Having been awarded 11 specialisms in the NHSE Genomic Medicine Service, the rare disease laboratory provides an in-house diagnostic service for molecular and cytogenetic testing in accordance with the NHS England Genomic Test Directory. Testing is provided for both prenatal and postnatal samples using Next generation sequencing, SNP microarray, karyotyping, FISH, MLPA, qPCR, ddPCR, NIPD and other targeted tests. We are also engaged in the delivery of the NHSE GMS Whole Genome Sequencing programme for our North Thames patients and specialist WGS for larger areas of England.
We are involved in a number of collaborative research and development projects with colleagues at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Neurology as part of the UCL Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

Main duties of the job
The Rare Disease Genomics Laboratory at Great Ormond Street Hospital is inviting applications from experienced HCPC registered Clinical Scientists in Genomics to join an expanding team delivering rare disease genomic tests for the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub.
Experience in analysis, interpretation and reporting of genomic tests (molecular genetic and/or cytogenetic) is essential. Experience of authorising genomic reports and Part 1 FRCPath are desirable.
As Senior Clinical Scientists, the postholders would be responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated area of the rare and inherited disease genomics service, including supervision of clinical scientists, for the delivery of a reliable, competitive, efficient, cost effective and high quality clinical diagnostic service. An additional interest in Workforce training, Automation/Innovation, or Quality (ISO15189:2022) would be an advantage.
We support trained scientists who wish to adopt flexible and/or hybrid working patterns. For Clinical Scientists, after a successful probation period, there is a requirement to work on-site for 40% of working hours.
