Job Description
At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.
Exploring new opportunities to make the most of your expertise while working with deep technical experts across multiple sectors delivering Operational Safety commissions. Our work on Operational Safety supports clients with mitigation of risk to people’s life arising from the operation of plant or equipment or the provision of a service or asset for use. We look at how that risk changes over time, particularly through interventions such as equipment and technology changes, changes to processes, and organisational roles and responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other specialists across WSP on commissions which may range from short‐term advisory projects to long‑term multi‑disciplinary engineering design schemes.
Working in our Operations and Safety team, you will collaborate with senior experts and other specialists across WSP, matching your operational safety expertise within areas like roads, rail, energy and active travel to provide a strong and tailored offering for our clients. You will work on a wide range of operations and safety projects at a central and local government level, resulting in a varied and diverse portfolio.
Typical Week
- Engage with clients to provide expert advice to support their objectives.
- Collaborate with other specialists across WSP, providing subject‑matter expert insight to safety risk assessments, operating procedures, policy, and major projects.
- Present findings and recommendations to client forums and industry stakeholders.
- Engage with stakeholders with relevant insight to specific topics (e.g., emergency services, operational staff, highway authorities, breakdown recovery operators).
- Lead responsible roles for technical packages of work in terms of time, cost, and quality of the output, ultimately ensuring customer satisfaction throughout delivery.
- Support the growth of the Operational Safety capability to achieve delivery against its ambitions, helping to drive delivery and business sustainability, with a particular focus on supporting the development of early‑career professionals.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing safety risk assessments, particularly in the transport domain.
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., civil engineering, transport studies, geography, psychology, arts) or a technician with BTEC, HNC/HND and an appropriate level of experience.
- A passion for working towards systematic safety integration (e.g., the safe system approach and Vision Zero).
- A proven track record in a consultancy role or demonstration of the aptitude and skills required to provide excellent consultancy support.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- A conscientious approach with attention to detail and the ability to work under your own initiative.
- Excellent stakeholder relationships and collaboration skills.
- Experience contributing to or developing client proposals.
