About The Role

Balfour Beatty are looking to hire a Senior Design Manager to join their Power T&D Division in Derby.

Role Purpose
The Senior Design Manager is accountable for a portfolio of Power Transmission and Distribution Engineering projects and their design delivery, management and governance, from initial opportunity through bid development, contract negotiation, mobilisation and delivery, to project completion and archiving.

They will lead, manage, mentor and develop a team of Design and Engineering Managers, Assistant Engineering Managers, Graduates, Apprentices and Trainees. They are expected to work closely with the Project Director or Head Of OPS and engage with internal and external stakeholders to manage scope, risks and programme of their portfolio of project designs. The Senior Design Manager leads the choice of engagement methods and processes used on their projects.

What you'll be doing

Accountabilities

  • Design management for safe, quality delivery of design projects on time and budget
  • Hire, train and motivate your team
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration among engineers
  • Scope and technical change management
  • Monthly project reporting
  • Seek opportunities to deliver safer, better, faster and more profitably
  • Provide technical input to contract negotiations
  • Produce and maintain key project documents
  • Ensure compliance with BB governance and customer requirements while developing and executing engineering strategies

Financial and Resource Allocation

  • Budget responsibility for a portfolio of project designs
  • Manage engineering budgets for allocated projects
  • Make recommendations on resource allocation to optimize engineering outcomes

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/Experience Are Essential

  • Supporting teams to deliver programs safely, on time, on budget and to a high quality
  • Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good technical grounding, experience and engineering delivery
  • Project leadership at a management level, delivering a range of projects from standard to complex
  • Experience in the UK HV Substations sector and in highly regulated industries
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
