Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer – Building Services Consultancy

Vertical Recruitment are working exclusively with an established M&E design consultancy with offices across the UK. The business delivers high-quality mechanical, electrical, and sustainable engineering solutions across a wide range of building sectors. Known for its technical expertise, collaborative culture, and innovative approach to design, the consultancy offers an excellent environment for professional growth and career progression.

They are currently delivering some of the UK’s most exciting projects, including the biggest residential scheme in the country, the tallest residential tower in Yorkshire, and a series of new build schools nationwide.

The team is now looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to join their South Manchester or city centre office.

This is a key opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys both hands‑on design and client interaction. You’ll take ownership of electrical design delivery while representing the business in a client‑facing capacity, building strong relationships with architects, developers, and end clients.

For the right person, this role offers a balance of technical design responsibility and client leadership, along with a genuine route for progression into senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design on a variety of building services projects from concept through to completion
• Act as a client‑facing representative, attending meetings, developing briefs, and providing technical guidance
• Produce, review, and coordinate high‑quality design outputs, ensuring integration with other disciplines
• Mentor junior engineers and support the wider team with technical knowledge and best practice
• Contribute to fee proposals, bids, and business development activities where required
• Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards, maintaining a focus on sustainable design
• Manage project resources and support the financial performance of allocated projects

About You

• Degree‑qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered or working toward CEng status with CIBSE or IET
• 7–10 years’ experience within a UK building services consultancy
• Strong technical design skills with a proven ability to deliver across multiple sectors
• Excellent communication and client‑facing skills, able to build long‑term professional relationships
• Confident managing project delivery and coordinating with multi‑disciplinary teams
