Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services Consultancy Southampton (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

We are a forward–thinking building services consultancy, headquartered in the Southampton area, seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead high–profile projects across commercial, residential, education, and healthcare sectors. In this role, you'll take ownership of complex design solutions, manage teams, and engage with clients–driving sustainable, innovative outcomes from concept through to delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design of building services systems: power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, comms/data, and security.
  • Prepare and review calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and client communications.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, encouraging technical and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, architectural, and sustainability teams for integrated MEP design.
  • Ensure compliance with BS 7671, building regulations, and sustainability standards.
  • Represent the consultancy in client meetings, design reviews, and workshops.
  • Contribute to business development and internal process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IET, or similar).
  • 5+ years' consultancy experience in electrical building services design.
  • Strong technical knowledge across electrical systems design and coordination.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Proven track record of leading design teams and delivering complex projects.
