Senior Environmental Consultant - Permitting

As a Senior Environmental Permitting Consultant, you will play a critical role in guiding infrastructure and development projects through complex regulatory frameworks, with a focus on environmental risk, compliance, and permitting strategy. We’re looking for a trusted advisor and hands‑on technical leader—someone who thrives in multidisciplinary teams, supports junior staff, and helps clients navigate ever‑changing regulatory landscapes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of complex environmental permitting projects
  • Manage technical outputs – risk assessments, environmental permit applications, and regulatory submissions
  • Apply risk assessment tools (e.g., LandSim, H1) and understand how permitting interacts with environmental legislation
  • Support and mentor junior staff across project phases
  • Oversee task allocation, QA/QC processes, and knowledge transfer
  • Maintain and grow client relationships; provide strategic advice to stakeholders and regulators
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotes, and fee estimates
  • Identify and secure new opportunities through existing and emerging client networks

Qualifications

  • BSc in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in environmental consultancy or regulatory sectors
  • Deep understanding of UK environmental permitting frameworks and risk‑based approaches
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; confident in report writing and data management
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Desirable

  • MSc or relevant higher qualification
  • Chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA, or similar)
