Overview

The Environment Agency are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. This is a role within the National Environmental Crime Unit (part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team) where you will lead investigations into serious environmental crime with the support of Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room.

This is a hybrid role with flexible working patterns, requiring occasional travel to meetings and operational duties. You may be needed to respond to incidents, with full training and workplace adjustments provided.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate and progress investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes, including organising lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
  • Work alongside Partnership Organisations and guide the development of investigative teams and complex investigations.
  • Support the Major Incident Room in major investigations and ensure the timely progression of cases toward successful outcomes.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the role and provide business continuity support during incidents when required (may attract additional payment).

Qualifications and Experience

  • High level of attention to detail; hardworking, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation (e.g., PACE, CPIA); excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT competence (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime, leading serious criminal investigations, and operations of a Major Incident Room are desirable.
  • Experience driving initiatives, building and developing investigation teams.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting within a 6-month probationary period; a full driving licence is required.
