The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong investigative background, good communication skills and a solid working knowledge of major investigations. Experience of working with Partnership Organisations and leading, driving and developing investigative teams and complex investigations is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room.
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of investigations: identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, preparing case files and supporting prosecution.
- Work on investigations that may involve Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.
- Develop the team and contribute to the progression of investigations within the National Environmental Crime Unit.
Qualifications and Experience
- High attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
- In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written skills; basic IT competency (Word, Excel, Teams).
- Knowledge of environmental crime, experience in leading serious criminal investigations and familiarity with a Major Incident Room are desirable.
- Experience in driving, using initiative to find solutions and building/developing investigation teams is beneficial.
- Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes is required within a 6-month probationary period; a full driving licence is required.
Role specifics
- This is a hybrid role with work from home and from your nearest Environment Agency Office; frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
- Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you must be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Additional payments, training and workplace adjustments may be provided to support this role.

- Full Driving Licence is required.
