Senior Environmental Crime Officer, National Investigations Team

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes, in collaboration with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room.
  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of investigations, including identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
  • Supervise complex investigations often involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud; drive case progression and team development.
  • Contribute to the development of the National Environmental Crime Unit and the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. Travel to meetings and operational duties as required and work in a hybrid environment.

Experience/skills Required

  • Strong investigative background with high attention to detail and self-motivation.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation (PACE, CPIA); excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime and experience leading serious criminal investigations; familiarity with Major Incident Room operations is desirable.
  • Proven ability to drive and develop investigation teams; proactive, initiative-taking, and solution-focused.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period is required.
  • Full driving licence is required.

  • This is a hybrid role with flexible working from home and an Environment Agency office; frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
  • Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. Availability to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support may be required and could include additional payment and full training/workplace adjustments.
