Overview
This position will be a hybrid role based in either Irlam or Stoke.
The Purpose of the Role
The primary function of the Senior GIS Technician/Planner is to manage, analyse and transform large spatial datasets from a number of differing systems, describing fibre network architectures.
A secondary function is to support the Design and Planning Team in all aspects of the network design, working to strict deadlines, while being flexible to meet change requirements when needed; this will include liaison with surveyors, build assurance engineers, build coordinators and other internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.
The role is also empowered to drive and effect innovations and improvements to the Design Team performance and methodologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Responsible for the governance of network asset data in line with best practice.
- Work closely with the IT team on projects to store, move and translate large datasets
- Applying data quality within our asset and customer management systems
- Ensuring as-builts are received, checked for data compliance and stored correctly
- Driving consistency, quality, suitability, and cost-effectiveness in network designs
- Ensuring and overseeing design acceptance
- Investigate across all comparable industries and evaluate where systems, methods or components may be beneficial to and its strategic aims
- Work with activity owners and assist with problem resolution and support issue resolution escalations if appropriate
- Assist to create, refine and maintain effective productivity and performance monitoring and reporting systems
- Work to achieve departmental and individual KPIs
Requirements
- Thorough understanding and mastery of GIS data/metadata and it’s potential within an infrastructure/service provider
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure and capabilities with respect to GIS deployments
- Based within a commutable distance of networks
- Experience (or capability to quickly learn) civils and fibre network planning and design for UK deployment
- Knowledge of FTTH/P network architecture, components and usage
- Understanding of architectures and components
- Understanding of Openreach’s PIA product and it’s applied usage
- Working knowledge of APX, DPComm or similar infrastructure-specific GIS packages
