Main duties and responsibilities

You will be integral to supporting the team as a supervisor and line manager, as well as maintaining a small clinical caseload and supporting in the operational running of the service. You will be passionate about providing a high standard of care for our service users. This is achieved through high quality therapy and ensuring all parts of the system and its processes are effective and run efficiently. This includes providing supervision and line management along with supporting innovation and the setting up of new processes and ways of working as required. You will lead on specific areas within our service in both the step 2 and step 3 teams; the senior role is to develop these areas, improve quality and outcomes, and take part in different projects. We welcome new ideas and initiatives.

We would particularly like to hear from you if you are qualified in a second modality in addition to CBT, such as IPT, EMDR or BCT. A qualification in NHS Talking Therapies Long Term Conditions is also valued. Leadership skills are essential to help problem solve with your team and motivate high standards in a rapidly changing service. For candidates without significant management experience, we offer a comprehensive induction and line management training package.

Qualifications, training and experience

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counseling psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or post graduate training in another core mental health profession plus post graduate diploma or higher degree in CBT.
  • Accredited as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist by BABCP or nearing completion of accreditation.
  • Professional registration with the appropriate Health and Care Professions Council, if applicable.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
  • Experience supervising cognitive-behavioural therapy interventions and delivering within a Talking Therapies service with service targets.
  • Skills in teaching and training others, including using complex multimedia materials.
  • Ability to identify and apply clinical governance mechanisms to support practice under emotive conditions.

Desirable

  • Personal experience of mental health problems.
  • Experience in a multicultural framework.
  • Postgraduate CBT Diploma; pre-qualification in research methodology or staff training.
  • Experience applying CBT in different cultural contexts and supervising both low and high intensity workers.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Complex cognitive-behavioural assessment, intervention and management skills requiring sustained concentration.
  • Strong communication skills, including conveying complex information to clients, families and professionals.
  • Ability to provide consultation to professional and non-professional groups.
  • Continuing professional development as recommended by BPS or relevant body.
  • Formal training in supervision of other clinical staff.
  • Desirable – knowledge of specialised psychological therapies in difficult-to-treat groups, two therapies in practice, legislation knowledge, and doctoral-level research methodology knowledge.
