About The JobHere at National Highways, we're looking for a Senior Highways Engineer to join our Operations team in the South East region. As part of our multi-skilled Asset Needs Team, you'll lead on maintaining the Vehicle Restraint System (VRS) asset across the South East. From overseeing inspections to shaping renewal strategies, you'll play a key role in safeguarding millions of journeys every year. You'll collaborate with project teams, supply chain partners, and stakeholders across the region - bringing your technical knowledge and leadership to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards, aligned with our policies and strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to apply and expand your highways and VRS knowledge within a forward-thinking organisation investing billions into the Strategic Road Network (SRN).You WillConduct and lead development of early solutions for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.Develop technical works briefs to enable procurement of external design resources and survey works.Support technical reviews and approvals for preliminary and detailed design solutions.Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.Support identification and management of asset studies and survey works, including prioritisation of needs to ensure assets remain in serviceable condition and meet the requirements of our standards.This role can be based at either our Maidstone or Basingstoke offices on a hybrid working basis. The role may also require working during unsociable hours.Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.About YouChartered or Incorporated Engineer and a member of a relevant professional Body (or working towards) with appropriate experience.Understanding of VRS (Vehicle Restraint Systems) design and systems.Experience in highway infrastructure design, construction and delivery methods.Good knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highway network; including use of the Road Restraint Risk Assessment Procedure (RRRAP).Good knowledge of CDM 2015.About UsHere at National Highways, we manage and improve England's motorways and major A roads, helping our customers have safer, smoother and more reliable journeys.
