We are looking for someone to join our Water Resources service area as part of a large team of water resources specialists, delivering a wide range of services for UK and international clients.

Role purpose and understanding

As a senior hydrogeologist, you will work with hydrogeologists, hydrologists, water quality specialists, asset planners and engineers to deliver projects including groundwater modelling, groundwater quality, abstraction impact assessments, groundwater management and related activities. Your work will support strategic decisions and deliver benefits to local communities and the environment.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Provision of senior technical advice across groundwater topics including groundwater modelling, groundwater quality, Water Framework Directive, geo-environmental, engineering hydrogeology and groundwater risk assessments
  • Contribution to bid and proposal writing across water resources, environmental and engineering sectors
  • Analyzing data using tools such as Modflow, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, Microsoft Excel
  • Producing high quality reports for clients

Alongside your technical role, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in project management and business development by engaging with clients and mentoring others.

Candidate specification

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science, mathematics or related discipline
  • Good communication and written skills
  • Well organised, able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision and support junior members
  • Logical and pragmatic problem solving, attention to detail and a willingness to innovate
  • Understand the importance of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental issues
  • Experience of quantitative assessment of groundwater problems and understanding different groundwater flow systems
  • Experience of analysis of environmental datasets, including groundwater levels, river flows and climate data
  • Experience delivering projects under national regulations and guidance
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of groundwater modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW)
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python), ArcGIS or QGIS

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology, water resources management or related discipline
  • Professional consultancy experience in water resources
  • Chartership with a professional body (e.g., Geological Society, CIWEM, ICE)
