Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Data Centre Networking

Overview

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer within the Global Data Centre Network Team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-level data centre networks. This includes planning, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing network hardware and inter-DC data circuits. You will also co-manage incident and change queues, troubleshoot performance issues, and provide capacity planning and traffic analysis.

Key accountabilities

Design & Planning:

  • Research data centre network products, services, protocols, and standards to support the procurement and management of data centre networks.
  • Perform network design and capacity planning.
  • Develop and maintain network standards aligned with NIQ network security policies.
  • Implement policies for network asset management, including documentation, hardware inventories, and network maps.
  • Plan and execute improvements, modifications, and/or replacement of network infrastructure.
  • Provide expertise in DDI (DHCP, DNS, IPAM).
  • Manage tools for validating network performance, SLAs, and reporting.

Operational Management:

  • Monitor and analyse performance across DC LANs/fabrics, DC interconnects, and WLAN deployments; identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Configure, manage, and upgrade network hardware (routers, switches, load balancers) following industry best practices.
  • Maintain network toolsets, inventories, and documentation.
  • Manage day-to-day DC network operations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Nautobot.
  • Recommend and perform network upgrades, improvements, and repairs.
  • Collaborate with the network support team on escalations.
  • Participate in the on-call rota (approximately one week in ten).
  • Mentor and guide junior team members.

Qualifications

Skills and competencies:

  • Deep technical expertise in Cisco network hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco data centre technologies (VXLAN, ACI).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex network issues.
  • Proficiency in automation tools: Ansible, Python, Nautobot, JSON, Cisco DNA Center.
  • Experience with monitoring and analysis tools: SolarWinds, NetFlow, Telemetry, Wireshark, ThousandEyes.
  • Effective stakeholder management and conflict resolution.
  • Strong documentation skills for project handovers and updates.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform under pressure.
  • Capable of presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years as a Network Engineer.
  • Minimum 3 years in a senior or SME role in networking.
  • Experience working in global, distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices (Incident, Change, Problem, CSI).
  • Exposure to SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) is desirable.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • Experience with DDOS prevention services (e.g., Radware) is a plus.
  • Mentoring and leadership experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Equinix Service Provider and ECX (Cloud Exchange Services) is a plus

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Routing and Switching

Desirable:

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) – Routing and Switching
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Data Centre
