Overview
Version 1 is seeking an Interaction Designer to work effectively in multidisciplinary, agile teams to deliver results for customers in the public and private sectors. The role requires designing services that are accessible, usable and inclusive, using tools such as Figma and the GOV.UK prototype kit. You will collaborate with users and stakeholders to design services that meet user needs and business objectives; your portfolio should demonstrate understanding of users, design standards, and clear communication of design decisions.
Responsibilities
- Design and iterate services that are accessible, usable and inclusive.
- Work with users and stakeholders to determine the best design solutions that meet user needs and business objectives.
- Create and communicate design decisions effectively, supported by your portfolio and evidence-based approaches.
- Develop and iterate prototypes at appropriate fidelity to test concepts with stakeholders and users.
- Apply appropriate design patterns and contribute to wider design community discussions and activities.
Qualifications
- Design thinking and evidence-based design: strong understanding of design thinking and the ability to apply frameworks as appropriate to a project; take an evidence-based approach to testing assumptions.
- Focus on users and their needs: ability to undertake basic user research as appropriate and collaborate with researchers to ensure usability and accessibility; design to meet a wide range of user needs and explain design decisions and constraints.
- Concepts and prototyping: ability to create and iterate various prototypes, select appropriate fidelity and tools, evaluate concepts, and explain designs to stakeholders; participate in wider design community discussions.
- Experience of accessible/inclusive design: apply key principles and evaluate designs against accessibility standards.
- Knowledge of design standards: familiarity with inclusive design and accessibility, WCAG 2.2, and UK public sector service design (GOV.UK patterns, GDS standards).
- Consultancy skills: effectively communicate design processes and decisions; manage stakeholders and escalate/unblock issues as needed.
- Agile working in multidisciplinary teams: align work to agile workflows across the development lifecycle and collaborate openly in a multidisciplinary team.
