This exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Services at Sheffield City Council at what will be exciting times for Sheffield as it continues its existing regeneration and embarks on new programmes. The teams you will be managing are based in the Town Hall. The teams provide transactional services and legal advice in relation to a wide range of complex property areas, including all aspects of commercial and residential conveyancing, commercial landlord and tenant, academies, regeneration and charitable trusts.
Responsibilities
- Manage a varied case load including high-profile and complex matters
- Manage a team of friendly and hardworking lawyers and professional officers dealing with a diverse range of legal practice areas. These areas include Property, Planning, Highways and Local Land Charges
- Work closely with senior officers and at times councillors, external lawyers and developers as well as an established commercial property and regeneration team of officers
- Work with Senior Lawyers, the Service Managers, the Legal Leadership Team and other stakeholders to provide high quality legal services
- Demand reduction and service efficiency - to work together to find ways for the Council to operate more efficiently within each service area, to create and sustain ways to reduce the need for legal advice and legal interventions
- Business Partnering with client departments to establish effective working relationships and identify better ways of working
Requirements
- Recognised Legal Qualification (Solicitor/Barrister or CILEx Conveyancing Practitioner)
- Good experience of complex commercial and residential property and regeneration work
- Excellent communication and comprehensive commercial property drafting skills
- Managerial experience

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
