Senior Privacy Counsel
Location: London, England, United Kingdom. Hybrid role – will work from the London office 3 times a week.
The Senior Privacy Counsel will advise and provide guidance to Sage colleagues on data protection issues on a global basis. The role focuses on supporting product development, engineering, sales and marketing teams, as well as assisting the Commercial and Product Legal teams with complex privacy legal matters and privacy risk incident management.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice on data protection laws (GDPR, UK Data Protection Act 2018, other jurisdictions) to stakeholders across Sage.
- Collaborate with regional colleagues and external counsel on matters outside UK jurisdiction and data privacy risk incidents.
- Maintain and update Sage’s data privacy compliance framework, including policy review and development.
- Support product and engineering teams in implementing privacy by design principles.
- Lead advisory efforts on cookies, similar technologies, and digital advertising.
- Act as key contact for EU local legal and data privacy matters.
- Develop and deliver training materials to colleagues across Sage.
- Identify and mitigate privacy risks, providing input on GDPR compliance activities.
Minimum qualifications:
- Robust knowledge of data protection laws and significant post‑qualification experience advising corporate organisations, preferably in in‑house roles.
- Business‑oriented mindset with operational focus and familiarity with emerging technologies such as ad tech, AI, and machine learning.
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment, prioritise tasks effectively, and communicate complex concepts clearly to non‑legal colleagues.
- Advanced behavioural competencies: effective communication, collaboration, customer focus, and adaptability.
- Experience with privacy management tools like OneTrust.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior in‑house experience or secondment roles.
- Track record of working on complex projects.
- IAPP CIPP/E certification or similar.
