The Senior Manager, Data & BI will lead the company's data analysis function with data engineering reporting into it. This role is responsible for the overall data strategy, team leadership, and ensuring high-quality, actionable insights are delivered across the organisation. They will maintain a strategic overview of the data architecture necessary to support this function.
What does success look like: Data Strategy & Leadership
Establish the vision, priorities, and roadmap for the central data analysis and data science function.
Build and lead a high-performing team of Data Analysts and eventually manage a Data Engineer to ensure the team has the necessary skills and support.
Drive the use of data analysis and statistical modelling to inform product development, marketing effectiveness, and business operations.
Support the Marketing team in developing and implementing automated, AI‑assisted marketing campaigns and personalised user recommendations based on deep data insights.
Insight Generation & Communication
Serve as the principal expert for data interpretation, translating complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
Provide performance data and up‑to‑date dashboards for Sales and Marketing teams to track progress against targets and adjust strategy accordingly.
Collaborate with the Academic team to monitor learner progress and build systems that enable the team to provide proactive support.
Own and champion the use of Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Looker) to ensure self‑serve capabilities are maximised across the business.
Provide strategic input on data requirements for both the learning platform and Higher Education Services, specifically supporting the Academic team in providing required data returns to HESA.
Data Governance & Quality
Champion data governance best practices, focusing on data quality, privacy, and responsible use across the business.
Ensure all analysis and reporting adhere to ethical standards and maintain an awareness of privacy issues, anonymity, and pseudonymity.
Collaborate with the underlying Data Engineering function to ensure the data platform is structured and managed optimally for analytical speed and efficiency.
Qualifications
Overall 4+ years commercial data analytics experience, at least a year in a senior or managerial position.
Proven ability to define and drive an organisation's analytical agenda using statistical methods and data science techniques.
Excellent knowledge and hands‑on experience with data transformations through SQL/dbt, data modelling and modern visualisation tools like Looker and Power BI. Experience with Python would be an advantage.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and ability to influence decision-makers.
An awareness of higher education (HESA) data reporting would be advantageous.
Technical Context & Systems Awareness
A strong high‑level understanding of data architecture concepts and the capabilities of cloud data warehouses, especially Snowflake.
Awareness of ETL and data orchestration concepts, enabling effective collaboration with the Data Engineering team.
Familiarity with Salesforce reporting and integration would be advantageous.
