Senior Managing Counsel - Competition & Consumer Law

The Senior Managing Counsel - Regulatory Strategy is a subject matter expert in competition & consumer law as well as digital regulations providing advice on matters with high complexity and risk, and with a global scope. As a manager, the Senior Managing Counsel effectively manages team priorities, identifies escalations from direct reports and manages upwards as appropriate.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Working on multiple high profile and impactful legal matters - including implementation of new digital regulations - with minimal supervision, partnering with other subject matter lawyers and proactively interacting with senior business stakeholders;
  • Thorough informed and robust decision making, providing clear and risk-based recommendations on matters of high and strategic complexity;
  • Together with business stakeholders, developing creative and innovative risk mitigations;
  • Drafting, advising and reviewing strategic and high value legal documents / agreements;
  • Negotiating and influencing matters of high complexity and risk externally, including with public authorities;
  • Assisting in the planning and alignment of the priorities of the Legal and Public Affairs team, actively providing input and ensuring external counsel are effectively managed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor degree (Master’s Degree / Specialised Diploma is an advantage) and admission to practise in at least one jurisdiction
  • 8-12 years experience in a reputable law firm or in-house team
  • Admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction
  • In-depth knowledge of EU competition law
  • Knowledge of consumer protection laws, online platform regulations, Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA)
  • Previous experience in reputable law firms, regulators and/or multinational companies working on complex matters across jurisdictions
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, and ability to directly and independently support multiple business stakeholders on challenges of high complexity and risk
  • Experience in providing advice on strategic legal matters, accurately identify risks
  • Excellent in providing simple, concise & pragmatic advice, drafting clear documents and written communications for legal matters
  • Ability to successfully manage complex projects and team’s resources through effective prioritization
  • Strong ability to lead and inspire a team, helping with prioritization, clear instructions and support with communication
  • Strong collaborative, professional approach; able to succeed in and lead diverse, multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
  • Adaptable, with a growth mindset, ready to embrace change in order to meet evolving business needs, work in ambiguous situations and under pressure, and learn from mistakes
