In January 2025, Navantia UK completed the acquisition of Harland & Wolff and its four historic facilities, strengthening the UK’s defence, maritime and energy industrial capabilities.

Job Description

At Navantia UK we design and deliver advanced naval ships. The Senior Marine Engineer will develop the design, integration and optimisation of auxiliary and propulsion systems for complex naval and government projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and integrate systems such as HVAC, fuel, cooling, firefighting, hotel and power‑propulsion
  • Collaborate with electrical, control, structural, naval‑architecture and safety teams to create seamless designs
  • Ensure auxiliary and power‑propulsion systems meet reliability, efficiency and maintainability standards
  • Drive innovation in energy efficiency, emissions reduction and sustainable solutions
  • Create system calculations, technical specifications, P&ID drawings, design disclosures, FMEA and integration deliverables
  • Guarantee compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise

Qualifications

  • Degree in Marine / Mechanical Engineering (or related field) or equivalent
  • Strong background in Marine Auxiliary systems and Power‑Propulsion
  • Expertise in system integration and experience with challenges of integrating auxiliary and propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, system optimisation and integration challenges
  • Ability to develop power‑propulsion architectures and analyse across operating profiles for redundancy and fuel optimisation
  • Experience with energy‑efficient solutions and emission‑reduction technologies
  • Problem‑solving mindset and collaborative approach
  • Eligible for BPSS clearance (SC clearance may be required)
