Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Maritime Consultant with a strong technical foundation and exceptional commercial acumen to lead and deliver impactful projects across the global maritime and energy sectors.
This is a strategic role involving hands-on delivery, client advisory, business development, and mentoring responsibilities. The ideal candidate will combine deep domain knowledge with the ability to understand and respond to client needs, influence commercial decisions, and drive value creation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage consultancy projects across ports, shipping, logistics, and offshore renewables.
- Deliver expert guidance on maritime strategy, regulations, decarbonisation, and operational compliance.
- Conduct navigation and environmental risk assessments, leveraging GIS, AIS, and VTS insights.
- Serve as a Designated Person for ports, harbours, and terminals, ensuring adherence to safety and operational best practices.
- Build and manage trusted relationships with clients, from operational staff to C-suite level stakeholders.
- Apply strong commercial judgement to client engagements, proposals, and project delivery.
- Support business development through high-quality proposals, bids, and tender submissions.
- Contribute to internal capability development by mentoring junior consultants and sharing knowledge.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory, technological, and industry trends relevant to the marine sector.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Strong network within UK ports and terminals.
- Eligibility and experience to act as a Designated Person.
- Seagoing background as a Navigational Officer or experience as a Harbour Master.
- Experience in ship surveying, auditing, and technical report writing.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and client-facing experience.
- Proven commercial acumen — ability to assess client needs, craft tailored proposals, and contribute to business growth.
- Deep understanding of UK and international maritime regulations, including the offshore renewables landscape.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant university degree.
- Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) and UK port governance.
- Familiarity with offshore renewables projects and regulatory context.
- Practical experience with mooring operations and tension calculations.
- Project management capability or certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
- A collaborative and strategic approach to consultancy.
