Senior Middle Office Analyst - Energy & Commodities Trading - London (hybrid)
A global leader in the Energy and Commodities sector, managing one of the world’s most diverse and expansive energy portfolios, is seeking a Senior Middle Office Analyst to join its expanding team in London. This is a vital position within the Middle Office function, supporting daily trading activity across both physical and financial commodities through accurate P&L reporting, trade validation, and exposure monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Produce and validate daily P&L reports for multiple trading books, ensuring integrity and accuracy of trade and market data
- Liaise directly with Front Office teams to resolve trade booking issues, support strategy execution, and process deal amendments
- Monitor exposure, credit risk, and market risk metrics across portfolios, identifying and escalating discrepancies as needed
- Collaborate with Risk and Finance teams during month-end to reconcile P&L and provide detailed variance analysis and commentary
- Analyse the impact of FX and interest rate movements on open positions and P&L; work with Treasury to ensure alignment on hedging strategies
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements in Middle Office processes, tools, and reporting capabilities, with a focus on automation and data quality
- Share best practices and support junior team members in developing technical and commercial knowledge
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Middle Office or risk function within an energy or physical commodities trading environment (e.g LNG, Power, Coal, Freight)
- Strong background in P&L analysis, trade validation, or market risk reporting
- High attention to detail, with advanced analytical and numerical capabilities and comfort working with large datasets
- Proficient in Excel; experience with trading systems and knowledge of SQL, Python, or VBA is highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to interact with Front Office, Finance, Risk, and Treasury stakeholders
- Proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, multicultural environment
