Responsibilities
Perform hydrodynamic analyses on surface and subsurface vessels, including manoeuvring, resistance, and seakeeping. Analyse and interpret test data to validate hydrodynamic predictions. Design and optimise hull forms, including automating the optimisation process. Collaborate on hull structural design and drawings for regulatory submissions. Conduct surface and submerged stability assessments. Work with mechanical, electrical, and control systems engineers to integrate vessel systems. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation: design specifications, engineering drawings, technical reports, and review submissions.
Qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, preferably Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering. Experience with 3D and 2D CAD modelling (Rhino, Inventor, Solidworks). Expertise in Naval Architecture software; knowledge of Paramarine desirable. Familiarity with CFD packages and hydrodynamic analysis of AUVs, small submersibles, and surface vessels. Strong understanding of hydrodynamics and ship stability, ideally with submersible experience. Foundation knowledge of mechanics of materials, especially composites design and analysis. Experience with regulatory requirements and industry standards for structural design and marine systems.
Design for class approval of composite structures against Lloyd’s or DNV‑GL beneficial.
Good understanding of marine systems integration. Construction, design consultancy, or trials of military small boats advantageous. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, for cross‑functional collaboration.
