Role Description: This is a full‑time hybrid role for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer at Pettit Singleton Associates in Preston. The role involves managing client projects from concept to completion, acting as the technical mechanical engineer on the project, advising the client, producing detailed technical designs, creating detailed reports and performing other designer and office duties. As a senior member of the team you will work with our long‑term high‑profile clients across sectors such as healthcare, education, defence, commercial, industrial and leisure. There is opportunity for the right candidate to progress into or from a Principal Engineer or to an Associate Director position.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in mechanical design and engineering
  • Experience in project management and building compliance
  • Knowledge of energy and sustainability principles
  • Ability to leverage first principles, engineering knowledge and analytical judgment while recognising methodological limitations
  • A good understanding of the electrical side of building services
  • Skilled at balancing quality, time and cost in project requirements
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to prepare proposals and bids
  • Experience in managing teams

Desired but not essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in building services, mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Experience within the healthcare and education sectors
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment
  • Chartered or a member of a professional body such as CIBSE, IMechE or IET
  • Experience using computer‑aided design tools such as Revit or MagiCAD
