Senior Palantir Engineer – Kainos Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom Employment type: Full‑time Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level Job function: Engineering and Information Technology Industry: Information Services Main purpose of the role & responsibilities: As a Senior Palantir Engineer, you will design and develop data processing and persistence software components for solutions that handle data at scale. You will lead agile teams, take technical ownership of key components, and collaborate across functions to ensure high quality and operational readiness. Your responsibilities will include:
Developing data processing software primarily for Big Data technologies, covering the full software lifecycle – design, code, test, and defect resolution. Working with Architects and Lead Engineers to ensure non‑functional requirements are met. Collaborating with colleagues to resolve implementation challenges, leading by example in code quality. Co‑ordinating with operations teams to ensure operational readiness. Advising customers and managers on effort estimates and technical implications of user stories and journeys. Coaching and mentoring team members.
Minimum (essential) requirements:
Strong software development experience in Java, Scala, or Python. Experience with data‑processing platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Databricks. Experience developing substantial components for large‑scale data processing solutions and deploying into production. Proficiency in SQL and SQL extensions for analytical queries. Solid understanding of ETL/ELT data processing pipelines and design patterns. Awareness of key features and pitfalls of distributed data processing frameworks, data stores, and serialization formats. Ability to write quality, testable code and experience with automated testing. Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment techniques.
Desirable:
Performance tuning experience. Experience with data visualisation and complex data transformations. Experience with streaming and event‑processing architectures, including Kafka and change‑data‑capture (CDC) products. Expertise in continuous improvement and sharing input on data best practice.
