Senior Payroll Officer - Aylesbury

We are working with an established payroll bureau in the Aylesbury area seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to lead their payroll operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional to take ownership of a well-established client portfolio whilst enjoying exceptional flexibility.

The Role

As Senior Payroll Officer, you will oversee the end-to-end payroll process for approximately 200 SME clients, managing a small team of one direct report. This position offers genuine autonomy and the chance to shape payroll operations within a supportive professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly and weekly payroll processing for circa 200 clients
  • Lead and develop one team member
  • Ensure compliance with current payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Handle complex payroll queries and client relationship management
  • Oversee pension auto-enrolment processes
  • Manage year-end procedures including P60s and P11Ds
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and reporting

What You Need

  • Minimum 5 years\' payroll experience within professional services
  • Proven experience managing client payrolls
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC procedures
  • Previous team management or supervisory experience is a bonus as the role has 1 direct report
  • Proficiency with modern payroll software systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong client service and communication skills
