Summary: Working with the Philanthropy team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager – Trusts & Foundations will drive new high-value relationships with Trusts & Foundations and raise six- and seven-figure income for our three charities: Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity, and Guy’s Cancer Charity. The role will help shape and develop our fundraising strategy and will predominantly manage Trusts & Foundations relationships, with a possible small Major Donor portfolio that may grow over time.

The role involves developing and managing relationships with trustees, influencers and staff of grant-giving organisations, leading on complex, large-scale projects and solicitations. As a senior team member, you will contribute to ambitious annual income targets and play a strategic role in initiating new initiatives and problem solving.

Working Environment
Hybrid hot desk environment: typically 2 days in the London office and 3 days from home. Occasional evening and weekend events may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Communication and networking
  • Write clear and compelling fundraising proposals to charitable Trusts and Foundations with capacity for six- and seven-figure grants.
  • Build senior-level relationships with trustees, influencers and staff involved with Trusts and Foundations, acting as the face of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation while supporting senior staff, academics and clinicians to communicate with funders.
  • Collaborate with academics and clinicians to develop strong cases for support for major projects for use in proposals and reports.
  • Develop and maintain an effective stewardship programme for Trusts and Foundations donors, including reports and communications for complex situations.
  • Act as a Trusts and Foundations specialist for the Foundation.
Decision making, planning and problem solving
  • Identify internal fundraising priorities aligned with Trusts and Foundations interests.
  • Work with Prospect Research to build a pipeline of high-calibre prospects capable of significant support.
  • Manage a large number of complex relationships and projects, responding to new opportunities as they arise.
  • Prioritise effectively and allocate resources to maximise income.
  • Plan long-term donor development for key accounts and calendar activity for the year ahead.
  • Make independent professional decisions and advise colleagues as appropriate.
Service delivery
  • Generate annual income in line with agreed targets for both individuals and the team.
  • Manage the Trusts and Foundations programme and work with the team to implement strategy and plans.
  • Achieve KPIs (e.g., meetings and pledged income).
  • Establish gift agreements with funders that meet the needs of both parties.
  • Contribute to team planning and performance monitoring to maximise sustainable growth.
  • Demonstrate enterprise and creativity in Trusts and Foundations fundraising.
  • Respond to stakeholders regarding fundraising requests.
Analysis and research
  • Contribute to team evaluation to inform annual planning and strategy.
  • Ensure donor details are stored in the database and perform data analysis as required.
  • Benchmark activity with peers and use trends to support new activity.
  • Undertake research with the Prospect Research team to inform cultivation.
Team work, teaching and learning support
  • Share a clear vision and collaborate with other teams as appropriate.
  • Present at staff training and induction events as required.
  • Coordinate with other high-value fundraising teams to ensure a unified approach to prospects.
  • Promote the work of the Trusts and Foundations team internally and externally and represent the team at events and sector meetings.
  • Assist with campaigns and projects as necessary and provide occasional cover for colleagues.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Philanthropy.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Ability to understand complex situations quickly and develop creative solutions.
  • Strategic team player with strong stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Attention to detail, sound judgment and confident decision making.
  • Clear and effective written and spoken communications; ability to present a case convincingly.
  • Ability to initiate and implement a coherent fundraising programme.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage a demanding workload.
  • Proficiency in writing and grammar; experience with fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge).
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to the Trusts & Foundations team.
  • Enterprising and creative with drive and initiative.
Knowledge, experience, and qualifications
  • Significant fundraising experience, including successful proposal writing, or transferable income-generation experience.
  • Experience undertaking large-scale projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines and with Trusts and Foundations in fundraising.
  • Experience fundraising five- and six-figure (or higher) donations.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising databases.
