Senior Platform Engineer (Observability)
New Yesterday
You’ll be joining Stora at an exciting time - on the ground floor of our new Platform Engineering team. With a slant towards observability and infrastructure, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how the team operates and contribute to the technical direction.
From day one, you’ll take ownership of designing and operating the systems that give us deep insight into the health, performance, and reliability of our platform. Your work will span monitoring, logging, alerting, tracing, and infrastructure as code — equipping our developers and operators with the visibility and tooling they need to deliver a world-class product.
Your Responsibilities
Lead the design, rollout, and management of observability systems (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki).
Lead the migration away from our old AppSignal setup.
Define and implement monitoring, application logging, audit logging, and alerting strategies across AWS.
Build Terraform modules to provision observability and core infrastructure.
Work closely with product and platform teams to ensure services are well-instrumented and reliable.
Help establish and measure SLIs/SLOs to guide operational excellence.
Proactively monitor, investigate, and resolve production issues, driving preventative improvements.
Our Technology Stack
We’re pragmatic and pick tools that balance speed and sustainability. Key elements relevant to this role include:
Observability: Managed Grafana, Managed Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry
Infrastructure: Moving from Heroku to AWS (EC2, RDS, CloudFront, S3, IAM, Managed Grafana, Managed Prometheus, etc.)
Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
Application stack (for context): Rails 7.1, PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB, Redis, Sidekiq
CI/CD & Ops: GitHub Actions, Docker, Kamal, Heroku (migration to AWS in progress)
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience in:
Designing and operating production-grade observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki).
Building and managing AWS infrastructure.
Writing and maintaining Terraform modules for infrastructure and monitoring.
Defining and managing key metrics, alerting, dashboards, and log pipelines.
Troubleshooting complex production systems with a focus on reliability.
Communicating technical concepts clearly across teams.
Bonus points for:
Experience with OpenTelemetry
Familiarity with Kamal
Background in incident response and on-call practices.
Interest in security, compliance, and cost optimisation in observability.
Important: This is a hybrid role based in Northern Ireland.
