About The Role
As a senior contributor to the team, you will provide both deep technical expertise and, critically, show strong leadership skills to help deliver well-managed, high-quality improvements and changes at scale and at pace. You will be a trusted SME and mentor to help develop the wider team and advocate company values and industry best-practice.
What You’ll Be Doing Day To Day
- Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical authority for the Platforms Team, guiding the design, implementation, and optimization of our AWS, GitOps, Monitoring and Observability, Developer Portal and Kubernetes (EKS) platforms.
- Architecture and Design: Architect and design scalable, reliable, and secure Platform solutions, ensuring they meet current and future needs.
- Platform Management: Lead the management and optimization of our AWS estate and Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability, performance, and efficient resource utilisation.
- Automation and CI/CD: Develop and maintain automation scripts and CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment processes, ensuring continuous integration and delivery.
- Monitoring and Incident Management: Implement comprehensive monitoring solutions and lead incident response efforts to maintain Platform product reliability and performance.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Product Engineering, Digital Workspace and InfoSec teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of Platform products and services, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.
- Mentorship and Development: Mentor more junior engineers, providing guidance, knowledge transfer, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and implement new technologies, tools and processes to enhance Platform capabilities, performance and cost efficiency.
- Documentation and Compliance: Ensure thorough documentation of Platform architecture, processes, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, etc.) and Kubernetes (EKS).
- Proficient in infrastructure-as-code (IaC) such as Terraform, OpenTofu, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, or similar.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD tools and pipelines, such as GitLab CI, Github Actions, Jenkins or similar.
- Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity management within AWS and Kubernetes environments.
- Current or previous experience with a modern programming/scripting languages such as C#, Go, Python, TypeScript, or Java.
- Advanced scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
- Expertise with monitoring, observability and Log analytics tooling such as New Relic Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack.
- Any experience implementing AI Ops and/or AI Coding tooling to enhance Developer Experience and enable efficient testing would be advantageous.
Leadership Skills
- Demonstrable experience of leading and mentoring small engineering teams and developing skills.
- Ownership of project delivery, including proven ability to take end-to-end leadership, work alongside multiple engineering teams, and with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience making informed decisions that balance risk, scalability, and cost.
- Experience in identifying and resolving critical technical issues.
- Providing leadership during incidents or outages to guide the team toward quick and effective solutions.
- Experience managing how we allocate our people and make strategic decisions on how best to allocate time and effort within the team.
What To Expect From Our Interview Process
We’ll start with a call with our Talent Acquisition team and then run a 3 stage interview process, all on Microsoft Teams. We want to make sure everybody has the opportunity to perform at their best. Ways of Working
Our full time hours are 37.5 per week, but we don't have rigid working hours so you can find the working pattern that's right for you. We have core working hours between 10am - 4pm, so we can collaborate and enjoy the social side of work. We also have hybrid working so we all work from home and from our Aeroworks office in Manchester City Centre. You’ll be in the office one day every two weeks, and you’re more than welcome to come in more if you’d like.
