We’re expanding our Green Infrastructure team to deliver an ambitious programme to make London greener, healthier and more climate-resilient. The role focuses on policy development, evidence building and delivering green infrastructure projects and programmes.

About The Team

The Green Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation teams work to deliver the Mayor’s mandate to create greener spaces and improve resilience to climate change. The teams deliver across seven main projects/workstreams to enable Londoners to enjoy green spaces and for London to be resilient to extreme weather.

We are looking for three Senior Policy and Programme Officers with expertise in different aspects of green infrastructure to help achieve this ambition.

About The Role

Reporting to a Principal Policy and Programme Officer, you will lead a portfolio of work to develop policy and evidence and to deliver green infrastructure projects. The role covers parks, urban greening, trees, biodiversity, rewilding and cross-cutting issues such as data, strategy, planning, green finance and more.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out project management tasks and governance processes to track spend and timelines, report progress, raise and mitigate risks and issues, and facilitate programme decisions.
  • Translate Mayoral priorities into delivery through policy development, policy influence and direct delivery.
  • Advise on feasibility, deliverability and key outcomes of projects delivered by partners and grantees.
  • Identify opportunities to improve funding and finance for the sector, including commissioning and leading research and building relationships (per role).
  • Embed equality, diversity and inclusion into programme design, communications and engagement; support implementation of the programme.
  • Provide internal and external communications about projects through briefings, presentations and other channels.
  • Contribute to and maintain repositories for key lines, briefings, project databases and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage relationships and contracts with stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams to ensure high-quality delivery.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria include a track record of managing a relevant programme or project, strong project management skills, and a good understanding of green infrastructure issues in London. At least one of the following areas of expertise is essential:

  • Ecology, biodiversity and/or conservation land management in urban areas
  • Funding and green finance investment mechanisms for green infrastructure (urban contexts)
  • Green space, urban greening and/or landscape design and management
  • Complex programme management in an environmental context

Other requirements include the ability to work in a matrix environment, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a willingness to work in a political environment if applicable.

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Managing relationships and contracts to ensure high-quality delivery.

Further Information

This role is based in London and may involve flexible working arrangements. The recruitment process includes an initial application, shortlisting and interviews. The interview/assessment date is Week commencing 20 October 2025.
