The Opportunity

The future of UK water security is being shaped right now. Stantec is delivering on major framework commitments, including key projects in Yorkshire Water’s Strategic Planning Partnership, Northumbrian Water’s Strategic Technical Partnership, and United Utilities’ Design Development Partnership. We are growing our Dams and Reservoirs team and need a proactive, senior‑to‑principal grade Dams Engineer to manage and execute major projects such as reservoir maintenance, upgrades, and new build schemes like Cheddar 2 and Coire Glas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical technical solutions and advice to ensure dams and reservoirs meet stringent cost, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Lead technical delivery, mentoring junior engineers and driving best practices across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Design, analyse, and assess dam engineering projects, including hydrology, hydraulics, geotechnics, structures, and seepage.
  • Manage complex technical delivery of reservoir maintenance, upgrades, and new build schemes.

Qualifications

  • Degree‑qualified engineer, achieving or actively working towards Chartered status (e.g., ICE).
  • Significant civil engineering experience in dam engineering and existing reservoir maintenance.
  • Expertise in at least one specialist area: hydrology, hydraulics, geotechnics, structures, or seepage in the context of dam design.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical teams.
  • Strong client focus, problem‑solving skills, and ability to thrive on complex engineering challenges.
