A Little More About Your Role

WSP is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our industry-leading Intelligent Infrastructure team to design and advise clients on the next generation technology that will build the transport systems that everyone else is talking about. WSP’s Tunnel Systems capability provides end-to-end tunnel asset design and advisory services, transforming the integration of tunnel systems design and delivery, led by a safety-by-design philosophy and operations. Using your technical knowledge (mechanical & electrical systems, road tunnel operations, safety) and design experience you will help deliver prestigious new build and refurbishment tunnel systems projects across many industry sectors including road, rail and utilities in the UK and beyond for a growing client base including Local Authorities, National Highways and National Grid. Collaborating with other designers and WSP multi-disciplinary teams, you will deliver high quality output to meet the client’s expectations.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • A proven technical capability in the design, operation or delivery of tunnel systems including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, communications, and control systems
  • Experience of working in applicable UK standards
  • An understanding of tunnel operational procedures and practices
  • Professional registration with an accredited institute preferred. However, if you are currently on a route to professional registration, you will be fully supported through the provision of a mentor and Professional Registration Advisors to take you through the registration process and achieve Chartered Engineer status
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively with both internal and external partners on integrated highway technology projects
  • Practical understanding of working with infrastructure design systems, which may include skills previously gained in Building Information Modelling systems, AutoCAD (or similar), ProjectWise and SharePoint
  • Ability to motivate, develop and lead junior members of the team, encouraging individual growth and performance
  • Problem-solving and self-motivation when undertaking specific tasks
