The project:

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a team delivering a multi-billion long-term programme of works to increase national prison capacity for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

You’ll work on a national programme with focus on delivering projects using best practice and experience. The role will require leadership of a project or a leadership position within a sub-programme (depending on wider programme requirements and your development plan). You will coordinate and work with a wide variety of disciplines across a range of delivery partner services which Mace provide to the MoJ. Project stages will vary from inception to post-completion.

This role is open to London, Birmingham, Manchester & Bristol.

  • Manage delivery from project inception/brief, through design development and planning, contractor procurement and construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones.
  • Drive consistency in delivery approach across the teams working alongside the project management office (PMO), upholding the use of established processes and governance procedures.
  • Establish a strong understanding of our scope of services and support the team in meeting these to a high standard, integrating with the wider project and programme management centre of excellence (CoE) at Mace.
  • Determine and arrange project management, technical services and external resources required for the project on an individual and team basis on behalf of the client organisation.
  • Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery and communicate strategies to the team.
  • Demonstrate Mace's value of safety first, exhibiting visible safety behaviours and using safety moments and Mace's HSW framework.
  • Provide subject matter knowledge to support the teams from the broader Mace projects and business units to assist in ensuring the best project outcome.
  • Procure and manage design and wider consultant teams and project stakeholders to ensure effective completion of responsibilities including project brief/scope, fees, processing claims, deliverables and/or project variations. Support collaboration between all parties.
  • Produce design and authorities programme (or work with a planner to produce) to be integrated with procurement and delivery programme.
  • Manage the timely and successful delivery to programme from project inception/brief, through design development and planning, contractor procurement and construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones. Be accountable for the scope of works relating to the project portfolios.
  • Deliver the project objectives in line with the project execution plan, lead and manage the project team and relevant stakeholders to achieve KPIs.
  • Prepare and modify project plans as needed and keep them updated.
  • Oversee project timeframes and budgets, highlight risks, challenges and mitigations.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and ensure robust quality systems are in place and monitored in line with service excellence.
  • Lead and record relevant meetings, provide context and analysis to relevant parties.
  • Partner with stakeholders and actively manage risks and mitigations.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all project stakeholders to ensure completion of responsibilities and that standards and records are documented and maintained.
  • Take ownership of project changes, tracking and formalising changes within agreed timeframes.
  • Responsible for ensuring approved handover documentation is coordinated and provided prior to practical completion.
  • Promote and drive the business priorities through construction to production, digital & data and responsible business.
  • Network and seek best-practice knowledge within Mace groups and knowledge hubs.

You’ll need to have:

  • 7+ years of project management experience (or equivalent).
  • MAPM/MCIOB/MRICS/MICE or equivalent.
  • Qualifications in a related field, or equivalent professional experience, with demonstrated intermediate level of role knowledge.
  • CSCS card.
  • Proven experience in project management of small to large projects.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
  • Understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, DfMA and MMC.
  • Strong communication, presentation and planning skills.
  • Experience in working with NEC forms of contract.
  • Leadership experience of large, diverse teams and managing relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in communication, negotiation and collaboration with contractors and stakeholders.
