About the Role
Rail Delivery Group is looking for 2 Senior Project Managers on a fixed-term contract (FTC), with retail / digital ticketing / customer propositions experience and an in-depth understanding of the current rail ticketing landscape and challenges. The successful candidate will be delivering the implementation of the Railcard Validation service.

As a Senior Project Manager at RDG your role is to work across a range of teams and stakeholders to deliver multiple complex changes at a time. This will involve employing both project management tools and techniques and excellent people skills.
Key Responsibilities
This is not an exhaustive list, however key responsibilities include:
- Planning what work needs to be done, when and who’s going to do it;
- Looking at the risks involved in a particular project and managing these risks;
- Motivating people involved in the project;
- Co-ordinating work done by different people, with responsibility for the work to be done to the agreed standard;
- Responsible for the project running on time and to budget;
- Dealing with changes to the project as and when necessary;
- Driving the project to deliver the expected outcomes and benefits; and
- Working to the RDG Project Delivery Framework and ensuring that other do too.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience of working as a senior project manager or similar, demonstrating a strong aptitude for the role, relevant experience and right attitude as well as solid delivery skills.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Some of the specific skills and knowledge we are looking for include:
- Subject matter expertise in retail / digital ticketing / customer propositions;
- Experience of work on technology / software implementations;
- Managing project scope and changes;
- Preparing estimates and a detailed project plan for all phases of the project;
- Procuring adequate resources to achieve project objectives in planned timeframes;
- Managing project budgets and cost control experience;
- Managing risk, understanding the risk context and demonstrating a range of risk techniques;
- Experience in dealing with and managing external resource, including third party contracts and procurement;
- Managing ongoing quality control and participating in quality issue resolution;
- Managing all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure an overall programme is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives;
- Understanding interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs;
- Highly experienced in planning, reporting and stakeholder management; and
- Extensive understanding of project and programme management principles, methods and processes
