The Project Manager is responsible for delivering medium scale independent projects and/or workstreams within a programme of work. They will be supporting the Senior Project Manager and Programme Manager in the planning and management of a portfolio of IT/Business projects.
The Portfolio team works across the Business and IT organisation (working with Business Owners, Product Owners, Business and IT Programme Managers and Solution Leaders) to define programme scope, agree and set budgets, acquire resources then form and lead project delivery teams. They will deliver projects from early scoping through design/procurement, build / integration, testing, deployment and transition to support
Key Responsibilities
- Delivers IT/Business projects including estimates, plans, resource management, schedule, scope, requirements, solutions, budget, and deliverables
- Provides motivation and leadership to team members; offers guidance, technical support, and coaching
- Ensures project deliverables meet quality standards and follow PMO processes and guidelines
- Supports Senior Project Manager in allocating resources across teams
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with key business and IT stakeholders
- Manages and communicates interdependencies within and across programmes
- Holds full budget accountability for assigned projects
- Manages team resourcing and supports resource allocation across broader teams
- Provides clear direction and fosters strong team engagement throughout project delivery
Project Delivery Ownership
- Works with stakeholders to define project charter and completion criteria
- Develops cost/labour estimates, schedules, milestones, and resource plans
- Coordinates resource acquisition with departmental managers
- Engages and communicates with business and technical stakeholders
- Assigns tasks according to plan and monitors progress
- Reviews team outputs and integrates work streams
- Promotes a positive, transparent team environment with open communication
- Facilitates fast, informed decision-making
- Coaches and supervises team members and contractors
- Identifies project risks/issues and develops mitigation strategies
- Tracks and escalates risks and issues as needed
- Monitors progress and manages changes in project scope
- Tracks financials: labour hours, budgets, operating and capital costs
- Manages scope changes and secures additional funding where required
- Provides status updates tailored to business and IT audiences
- Develops and executes project and product deployment communication plans
- Leads post-project reviews and creates recommendations reports
- Documents and shares lessons learned with other project managers
- Completes all closure documentation and updates relevant knowledge bases
