Barnet NHS Talking Therapies provides psychological and psychotherapeutic services to residents with a GP in the borough. Candidates will be highly competent in working within a socially deprived and multi-cultural setting. Candidates will have experience in adult mental health and/or primary care. We offer a supportive team environment, including a peer group of CBT therapists and counsellors, with opportunities to shape and develop the service as it expands. This post reports to and is supported by the Senior Psychotherapist/Step 2 Team Lead.

The post holder must be a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, at least one year post-qualification, with training from a nationally recognized postgraduate program in mental health issues and brief solution-focused interventions for adults with mild to moderate emotional difficulties, particularly anxiety and depression.

We operate a hybrid working policy. The successful applicant will work from our base at least 2 days per week, with the remainder remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a caseload of clients with mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression, referred and assessed by GPs, other professionals, or self-referred.
  2. Support patient referrals to other services as appropriate.
  3. Provide brief, evidence-based interventions using guided self-help methods, in collaboration with colleagues and under supervision.
  4. Ensure work is patient-focused, culturally competent, and sensitive.
  5. Assist in running self-help groups and activities, utilizing self-help materials and mental health resources.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  1. Support general practice staff in managing patients with mental health needs.
  2. Provide clinical and line management supervision for Step 2 workers, including performance reviews.
  3. Screen new referrals and liaise with secondary care mental health services and social services as needed.
  4. Assist with recruitment and selection of staff and trainees.
