About The Team & Role

Gloucestershire County Council are seeking to recruit to one permanent vacancy and one 12-month fixed-term vacancy for maternity cover.

You would be joining the Public Health and Communities Hub. We are a team who are committed to making a difference to the health and wellbeing of residents, and places and communities, to enable people to live healthy lives and reduce inequalities.

As a Senior Public Health Officer, you will work under the direction of Public Health Managers to lead and support a range of projects and programmes aimed at improving health outcomes. Working flexibly across the commissioning cycle, you will take a lead on commissioning activity, and work collaboratively with internal and external partners, to build on community strengths, and on evidence of what matters to local people and what works.

You will join a supportive team with a commitment to professional development to enable you to make your own contribution to improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of residents of Gloucestershire.

Please note: The permanent post is being advertised in anticipation of a vacancy. Following interviews, any offer of employment will be conditional, and a formal offer may not be confirmed until October 2025.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in a commissioning environment, as a commissioner or provider, and experience of working on the determinants of health, for example, housing, environmental health, health and social care and/or public health.

They will have proven project management skills, self-initiative and the ability to work flexibly and build constructive relationships with people at all levels.

The Public Health and Communities Hub support the Council’s Agile working policy and expect team members to work an average of two days per their working week in the office, which is based in central Gloucester, and to attend ‘in person’ meetings as and when required. New starters will be required to come into the office more often in their first 3 weeks for induction.
