Join to apply for the Senior Quantity Surveyor – Client‑Side / Consultancy Experience - Exeter role at Ward Williams

We are a dynamic, forward‑thinking business that has doubled in size over the past 10 years, propelled by our passion and reputation. The first of our kind to achieve B Corp status in the world and awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Sustainable development, we build smarter, more sustainable, future‑focused projects with positive impact on our communities and environment. Our acclaimed Futures programme creates opportunities for personal and professional development in a culture where you can thrive.

At Ward Williams, we want you to be your authentic self, feeling confident to speak your mind, to feel relaxed in your role (no stuffy dress code here!), but most importantly, to offer a different take on how a Quantity Surveyor can play a part in positive change, working across a wide variety of projects. (Yes, you read that right!) Variety is key; you won’t be pigeonholed into one sector.

Custodianship at the core of Ward Williams & how we operate:

Collectively elevating everyone and leaving a legacy for the next generation is at the heart of our Partnership model.

You will be supported and encouraged to make a positive impact, allowing for an authentic culture where people are supported and trusted. This is more than just words; we actively push all members of staff to upskill, whether that is becoming chartered, or more tailored upskilling, learning and development. You are not just an employee; you are our future, and we commit to investing in you. If you have ideas, brilliant – we want to help you achieve your goals!

Who are we looking for:

We’re seeking a talented, dynamic Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team in Exeter. If you’re ready for career progression, greater visibility, and the chance to make a real impact, this is an opportunity to thrive in a business that both challenges and supports you.

Values we seek:

  • Impact – You want to be part of something that matters and care about creating positive change for clients, communities, and the environment.
  • Imagination – You’re curious and open‑minded, always looking for new ideas and better ways of doing things to benefit our projects and the people we work with.
  • Authenticity – You’re honest, genuine, and collaborative, and you value a culture where people are true to themselves and their purpose.

We’re looking for someone with solid experience in a construction consultancy environment, confidence in client delivery, and the ambition to grow their career. You’ll be working at the forefront of high‑profile projects across a range of sectors, including:

  • Residential
  • Education
  • Health

Key attributes:

  • Minimum of 2 years PQS experience in consultancy construction project management.

  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, design coordination, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, cost control, value engineering, and maximising project profitability while maintaining quality.
  • Experienced in managing NEC, JCT, and other contract forms to ensure commercial success.
  • Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks to prevent impacts on timelines or budgets.
  • Ability to manage complex project timelines and deliver milestones on schedule.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft 365 and cost management software (e.g., CADMeasure, iTWO CostX).
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards, health & safety requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Effective leadership skills, guiding teams through changes in scope, schedule, or resources while maintaining focus and morale.
  • Strong communication skills, clearly reporting progress, challenges, and strategies to leadership and clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, building and maintaining relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams.

Feel like you met some of the above, but not all, still apply – we want to hire the right person, that may involve some upskilling, but that’s part of our process and want for all employees.

What we offer our employees:

  • Hybrid working with flexible hours in the office to foster collaboration.
  • Competitive salary that rewards your skills and experience.
  • Tailored training and development to help you reach your goals.
