Role: Senior Research Scientist – Data Science & Machine Learning

Location: Chelmsford (Hybrid: 2 days onsite, 3 remote)

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + 10% bonus

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours/week

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge research in AI and statistical signal processing, with a focus on sequential data and decision-making systems. As a Senior Research Scientist, you’ll drive the development of novel algorithms and intelligent systems that operate in complex, data-rich environments.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the technical execution of projects, providing guidance and mentorship to junior researchers. Prepare and present comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and supporting documentation.
• Drive innovative research within designated topic areas, collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and leading UK universities.
• Design and develop prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrators to validate research outcomes.
• Take full ownership of project tasks, ensuring delivery to high standards and within challenging timelines.
• Work independently or collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Communicate research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor and support junior staff, fostering their development in related research domains.
• Publish and/or patent novel research outcomes, contributing to academic journals, conferences, or intellectual property portfolios where appropriate.

What You’ll Bring:

• PhD or equivalent experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or statistical signal processing.
• Proficient in Python, with strong development skills and hands-on experience using machine learning libraries such as PyTorch and scikit-learn.
• Domain expertise in areas including radar, sonar, radio frequency (RF) systems, autonomous systems, or distributed sensing technologies.
